Recent China Patent Statistics

828,328 patent applications were filed in China in 2008. 86.6% were filed by domestic applicants and the rest, by foreign applicants.

This is nearly a 20% increase compared to 2007.

The breakdown of the domestic-based patent applications was:
27.1% – patent for invention;
31.2% – utility models
41.6% designs

Foreign applicants filed 85.7% invention application.

Which citizens produce the most patents per population?

Reports show that on 2008, the most “fruitful” people where the Japanese. Israel is 6th.
